The Mauler, or standard Infected, is a reoccurring enemy in Fireteam.
It is one of the many types of Infected, and it appears in Cabin Fever, Black Lung and Dead Water.
Appearance[]
The Mauler is male, with the appearance of a Viral Infected and the gray claws of a Host Infected. It shares its clothing with the enemies from Desert Thunder and Desert Fox.
The Mauler also has different variants. One variation that appears in Black Lung is the Assault Mauler, who carries an M3 Super 90 and uses it as a club.
Dead Water introduced many new Mauler variants, who now wear civilian clothing or military uniforms. Furthermore, there are now female Maulers, who are faster but have less health, and armored male Maulers who have more health but move slower. Maulers can be Host or Viral, male or female, and wear either civilian clothing or, in the male's case, armor. Armored Host Maulers have the most health.
Another variation is the Light Vest Mauler that appears in Combat Arms: Zombies. This Mauler has whitish skin and a blue vest.
Overview[]
The Maulers are the most common type of Infected, with no notable skills or abilities. To make up for their lack of power, they are also the most common enemy in the game. At least 50 will appear on the first round of any mission, and their numbers only continue to grow as the game progresses.
Due to their numbers, Maulers are able to surround players, box them in, and take the brunt of the damage intended fo stronger Infected; leaving players vulnerable once they are overwhelmed.

- The Mauler is the most common enemy in the game.
- It is also the only Infected with no special abilities.
- It was the first Infected with a special variation, while also having the most variations.
- Oddly, despite having the appearance of a Viral Infected, the Mauler's claws are gray like a Host Infected.
- When alerted, female Maulers make the same growling sound as the male ones, which is similar to one of the growls that infected players make in Quarantine Regen when idle. It would have been more appropriate to use the female growling sound for them.
