The Tank is an enemy vehicle encountered during the events of Desert Thunder.

Overview[]

The tank sits in a vital corner of the city's streets, right outside of the temple. Because of your proximity to the tank (it sits on higher ground and cannot be damaged by your weapons), it is impossible to engage it in single combat.

Luckily, the tank is grounded; so it cannot move from its position. Furthermore, the alleyway adjacent to the tank leads to a safe vantage point above the tank, where a vital weak point is exposed. Unfortunately, the alley is full of militants, so reaching the vantage point may not be the easiest thing to achieve.

The tank is scripted differently from other combatants, since the only thing it does is cause quick successive explosions in a certain area. It does not show up on your HUD in any way except for the objective marker.

Trivia[]

  • The shells given off by the tank are actually programmed as grenade explosions.
  • Many players find it questionable that a tank would have such a vulnerable location exposed, particularly in combat. The only explanation for this and its inability to move is that the tank was undergoing engine maintenance prior to the appearance of the Mercenary Fireteam (the players) and the crew was forced to man it immediately, not having the time to properly reconnect the transmission and close the hatches.
  • Although the LAW and RPG-7 explosive projectiles is designed to pierce though tank armor, they still cannot damage the tank. (Unless fired directly into the engine.)
  • The tank was one the first "bosses" in the game.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the Tank's engine CAN be destroyed by an explosive. Simply knife the Tank's engine exactly 5 times with the default M9's Primary attack (or critically damage the engine with any other weapon until it is on fire), then drop a grenade in. It shall destroy the tank.
