Grinding, in Combat Arms, is when one or more players play a particular game mode continuously for a long period of time. The individual matches often occur in quick succession with only brief pauses between the end of one match, and the beginning of the next. The end result is often large gains of EXP/GP in a shorter amount of time.
This strategy is recommended to anyone who wishes to recieve the highest amount of EXP/GP, in the shortest legitimate amount of time.
Popular Grinding Modes/Maps[]
- One Man Army. One of the first modes that was grinded, most of the matches occurred in the Junk Flea map, with the settings at 45 kills, and 16 players. This allowed for participants to receive a large amount of kills with little waiting between each kill. The size of the map in conjunction with the number of players also allowed for the matched to end fairly quickly.
- Fireteam. Although it depended on which Fireteam scenario is in question, the mode as a whole has generally been greatly grinded in the past and in the present. However the three scenarios which were most grinded are Desert Thunder, Cabin Fever, and Nemexis HQ.
- Desert Thunder. With proper practice, and a skilled team, these matches were often breezed through very quickly. Since the spawn locations of the enemies are mostly scripted, a player experienced in this mode could easily rake up many points by knowing where to shoot, and when.
- Cabin Fever. Often done in teams of four, with each individual holding a certain door, players would mainly use many machine guns in order to spray at the enemy zombies and receive a large amount of points. This was often combined with the 'fish bowl' strategy later in the game.
- Nemexis HQ. Taking a relatively short amount of time over all, players can rush through the Nemexis HQ building very quickly. The main source of points in this map is from the final stage, when facing off against DREAD. Most who grind this mode bring an Operative with a Minigun in order to quickly maximize points gained from DREAD. They would also bring the Warlord ability in order to be able to reload their Minigun.
- Quarantine. After this mode received a fairly high EXP/GP boost, the popularity of this mode exploded. When grinding, many prefer to load up on explosives in order to quickly defeat the infected and earn points.
- Arms Race. Grinding in this game mode is similar to One Man Army grinding, except the EXP/GP pays out a bit more.
Trivia[]
- Grinding is often falsely associated/confused with Power Leveling, due to it's ability to grant large sums of EXP/GP in a short amount of time. This has caused grinding to receive a negative reputation.
- In a video featuring then Community Manager Kalika, one Nexon staff member humorously stated that, "...You can play DT until your eyes bleed." when asked about grinding.
