Default items are special one-of-a-kind items in Combat Arms that are automatically given to every player when they have successfully created their character. They do not expire, nor can they be discarded. They give no major stat bonuses, nor are they the ideal equipment set; but they are useful for being excellent starting gear.
Early in 2009, Nexon introduced a new type of NX item; ones that permanently replace default weapons and gear, including replacing the M16A3 and the M92FS with other GP weapons. Later, in mid 2009, Nexon introduced another method of changing your default items. These "Permanent" weapons do not replace your default weapon, but will instead add the weapon to your inventory indefinitely. That way, you can change your default weapon at any time without having to pay or lose a weapon you currently own.
In March 2010, Nexon added new "default" equipment to the game. Default Upgrades are specially improved versions of the default weapon set, which are awarded to players at certain ranks. They are statistically better than the default weapons, are easily differentiated by their names and unique designs. All the default upgrades come in specialized sets; each of which containing a backpack, a cap, a knife, a handgun, and a primary weapon. Pieces of each set are received upon reaching a certain rank, in that order. The four Upgrade sets are the Professional Set, Veteran Set, Elite Set, and Champion Set.
