Bosses are usually among the last enemies to be defeated in a game, especially for a particular chapter or mission. They have relatively high endurance, and are often hard to defeat.
When an challenging enemy akin to a boss appears halfway through a mission, or appears fairly often, they are known as a Sub-Boss.
